As San Diego Pride 2025 approaches on July 20, important questions are being raised about what it means for Pride events to truly embody inclusion and respect for all.

In a powerful op-ed for the Times of San Diego, Andrea Beth Damsky—a Jewish LGBTQ+ community member, longtime activist, lay Jewish leader, and board member of A Wider Bridge, a Finest Community Coalition member organization—voices deep concerns about San Diego Pride’s decision to feature Kehlani as a headliner. Damsky explains how Kehlani has amplified rhetoric many see as antisemitic, which can create an unwelcoming and unsafe environment for LGBTQ+ Jews and allies.

🛡️ The Finest Community Coalition’s Statement on Kehlani at San Diego Pride

The Finest Community Coalition previously released a statement expressing concerns about Kehlani’s inclusion in the San Diego Pride lineup. We believe Pride must be a space where all LGBTQ+ community members feel safe and respected—without the risk of being marginalized or excluded due to antisemitism or hate.

💙 Why This Matters: Building a Truly Inclusive San Diego Pride

Pride should be a celebration of love, acceptance, and equality for everyone in the LGBTQ+ community, including Jewish LGBTQ+ individuals. Hosting artists who have engaged in antisemitic rhetoric contradicts the values of unity and inclusivity that Pride stands for.

As Pride season approaches, we invite you to join us in advocating for a Pride that champions diversity, stands against antisemitism, and creates a safe and welcoming environment for all.

Let’s build a stronger, safer, and more inclusive San Diego together. 💪
