The San Diego Union-Tribune recently published an op-ed by coalition member Karen Parry, CEO of Hillel of San Diego, highlighting the challenges that Jewish students face on college campuses, as well as the essential work happening at Hillel of San Diego to support them. As antisemitism has risen sharply across the country since October 7th, 2023, students are navigating not only visible harassment and protests that veer into outright antisemitism, but also the lasting isolation and intimidation that often go unseen.

The piece underscores the importance of organizations like Hillel of San Diego, which has been at the forefront of providing both visible and behind-the-scenes support for Jewish students. From walking students through reporting systems to advocating for stronger university responses and offering mental health resources, this work is creating a meaningful impact across local campuses.

This piece brings much-needed attention to the strength of Jewish students and the responsibility of universities to uphold safety, respect, and belonging for all students.

The op-ed also emphasizes that while national headlines often highlight failures, San Diego’s students are showing resilience, leadership, and strength.

At the Finest Community Coalition, we appreciate this invaluable perspective. By amplifying stories like this, we can help San Diego remain a place where Jewish students — and students of all backgrounds and groups — can thrive in safety and dignity.
