Local news station ABC 10News San Diego recently covered an extraordinary campaign to bring rare Holocaust-era artifacts to the RUTH: Remember Us The Holocaust exhibit, with the ultimate goal of creating a permanent Holocaust museum in San Diego.
The artifacts come from the family of Heinrich Mueller (no relation to Heinrich Müller), a survivor of the Flossenbürg concentration camp. Among them is Mueller’s striped camp uniform bearing an inverted pink triangle (a Nazi symbol used to mark LBTQ+ prisoners) as well as a photograph of him wearing it and documents referencing his brutal treatment.
Curator Sandy Scheller described the uniform as “one of a kind,” emphasizing how a single piece can represent history in a profoundly powerful way.

The listed price for these items is $125,000, and with private donations already reducing the gap, the campaign now seeks to raise the remaining $40,000 through a GoFundMe drive. Scheller and her team believe securing these artifacts could spark momentum toward establishing a permanent Holocaust museum in San Diego.
We are glad that ABC 10News is giving visibility to this important campaign. Stories like this remind us that combating hate begins with remembering history, in all its complexity, and ensuring that the next generation learns valuable lessons that negate, and hopefully prevent, antisemitism in San Diego.
The Coalition will continue amplifying efforts like these, which align with our mission of building stronger, more resilient communities through education and solidarity. Below you can find links to the full story and the GoFundMe to support this effort.
